The label was created as an index of vintages for all wine lovers and collectors. The series depicts the analytical data of the wine, including essential factors such as the age of vines and information about the soil and the clones. The idea was to communicate the quality and to record all of the unique features in a systemic way. The printing technique used was traditional letterpress. For the typeface we used a contemporary serif font, combining the calligraphy of the broad nip pen with the sharpness of the scalpel. All data are depicted with a monospace typeface, GT America—the missing bridge between nineteenth-century American Gothics and twentieth-century European Neo-Grotesk typefaces. It uses the best design features from both traditions in the widths and weights where they function optimally.

The Lebanese winery Domaine Wardy commissioned us to design the packaging of their new Un-Oaked Blends series: Beqaa Valley Red, Beqaa Valley White, and Beqaa Valley Rosé. A typographic solution was adopted for the packaging design, using the Arabic name of the brand “Wardy,” stylized in a vertical modern Arabic lettering, inspired by grape tendrils. The packaging design uses color coding for each bottle and is characterized by its simplicity, elegance, and recognizability, as well as a proud Lebanese identity.

“It’s always windy up here.” That was Mark Kenneally’s response when asked about the nature of their Culley Road vineyard in McLaren Vale. Mark is one half of Altschwager Kenneally Wines, who produce wine from three wine regions across two countries.

The design process for the logo, branding, and packaging for NICE CREAM—a low-calorie, healthy ice cream—involved attempting to re-examine the food industry’s usual design style by using pictures in a new way. The packaging design captures the habits of healthy food users, highlights the nutritional elements, and shapes the new generation of ice cream brands through the reorganization of information levels and bright colors.

Remains of Echoes is an album of improvisational covers by guitarist Eric Hofbauer and drummer Dylan Jack. The album takes its title (loosely) from lyrics to Jimi Hendrix’s “Up From the Skies,” one of the ten songs on this album. The colored dots are an echo of the palette of Axis: Bold as Love, the album on which “Up From the Skies” originally appeared—making this a cover for an album of covers.

After a twenty-plus-year relationship, Spy hired Viva & Co. to assist with all aspects of this startup brand. We helped with naming the company, packaging design and website creation, as well as all other promotional materials and writing. We are excited to continue helping out as Spy grows and evolves.

To date, most cat food brands have paid little attention to what truly makes cats cats. My approach in creating this package design was to home in on what cats are: independent, self-actualized, and a bit weird (in a good way). In the application of design, I tried to create impactful but quirky approach to the typography. Taking inspiration from how cats tend to nudge objects, I applied that same movement through various lockups per recipe, seeing the design through a cat-like lens.

Timeless, contemporary, minimalistic, smart, exclusive, elegant, outstanding.

This gift box packaging contains high mountain teas. The three colors of packaging were designed to better differentiate the concentrations of each tea. Importantly, the visual effect of the firing mark design was scanned from a real firing mark and embossed by laser engraving to call to mind the charcoal-baked process for the tea. Meanwhile, the front side of the packaging was shaped as layer upon layer of mountains to present the concept of the high mountain tea area.

Over the years, chocolate has become complicated with myriad new infusions and unnecessary ingredients. In response to this shift, Thomas Haas Blak was created to celebrate dark chocolate in its purest form. Simple ingredients and bold flavors are expressed throughout several products, including Bars, Truffles, and Cakes. To align the brand with the product vision, the same convictions were applied.
